Description

Abby Tilton was the last person to actually reside in the home that would later become Skowhegan History House. Abby and her sister, Sarah, moved into the home when their widowed father retired there in 1863. The sisters lived out their lives in the brick cottage, neither having married. Sarah died in 1906 and Abby passed away in 1909. The house was vacant for many years until Louise Helen Coburn purchased it in 1935 and restored it to become the History House Museum which opened a year later.

The ink sketch of Abby was drawn by Skowhegan artist Zaidee Morrison who became nationally known for portraiture and water colors. History House has six examples of her work on display.
